We kicked the evening off at a cozy Izakaya bar. Takuya, of course, ordered a great mix of dishes for us. We then hit a variety of restaurants in all sorts of neighborhoods. We tried foods we never would have tried, in restaurants we never would have visited.
HOST of EXPO 2025, OSAKA, KANSAI
Osaka is my home city — and there is no better guide for it. As a resident of Osaka for many years and a Nationally Licensed Guide who has led hundreds of private tours throughout the city, I bring a local’s knowledge and a storyteller’s gift to every Osaka experience.
Osaka has a character entirely its own. Famous for its merchants’ culture, its irreverent humor, its extraordinary food scene, and its deep civic pride, the city rewards those who go beneath the surface. I will show you the Osaka that the guidebooks skim — from the vibrant street life of Dotonbori and Shinsekai, to the history of Osaka Castle and the stories of the warlords who shaped Japan from this city, to the hidden food stalls and standing bars where locals eat and drink every night.
Whether you want to explore the city’s history and landmarks, dive deep into its legendary food culture with a dedicated Osaka food tour, experience the nightlife at izakaya and tachinomi bars, or discover the local neighborhoods that most tourists never find — my private Osaka tours are built entirely around what you want to experience.
Osaka is also my base of operations — meaning every departure is seamless, and the city knowledge I bring is genuinely that of a local, not a visitor.
Osaka is also a major cruise port — if you are arriving by ship, I offer private shore excursions to Kyoto, Nara, or around Osaka itself. Looking to combine destinations? Explore my private tours of Kyoto or Nara for a seamless multi-city experience. For a unique side of Osaka, discover my Osaka Suburban Tour — hidden gems beyond the city.

Check out the most popular destinations of Osaka on this comprehensive day tour:
- Osaka Castle
- Douton-Bori (Hozenji Yokocho)
- Ohatsutenjin
- Umeda Sky Building
Plentiful, affordable, and great tasting dishes – those three aspects have seen Osaka nicknamed as The Kitchen of the World. With this in mind, I have designed a foodie oriented tour:
- Cup Noodle Museum in Ikeda
- Umeda Sky Building
- Shinsekai & Janjan Yokocho
- Dotonbori & Hozenji Yokocho
- Ura-Namba
I understand that not everybody will have the time or budget for a complete day tour of Osaka, so I’m also happy to offer this half-day tour where you will visit these three recommended spots:
- Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine
- Abeno Harukas
- Tsutenkaku & Shinsekai
See What My Previous Guests Say
Our family for 4 had the good fortune of having Takuya-san as a guide in Osaka for a day. Since language is a barrier to self planning in Japan, having Takuya helped immensely, especially since we had some unusual requests like visiting a pet beetle shop and watching the Keren Show.
As the foodie in the group, I’m particularly grateful for the last minute Michelin caliber dinner in Osaka!
If you are traveling to Japan and are looking for a local that is fluent in English and that will be able to give you an inside look to amazing food, culture, history plus anything else you may want to know about the country, look no further. Takuya is the one for you.
Our trip was supposed to end with Takuya dropping us off at our restaurant, but we invited him to join us and he graciously did. Having him there made a great deal of difference as he order off of the Japanese menu and not the “Tourist English” menu.

Osaka Private Tour: Japan’s Kitchen and the City I Call Home
An Osaka private tour is unlike any other city tour in Japan. Osaka has its own character — louder, friendlier, more direct, and more obsessed with food than anywhere else in the country — and experiencing it properly requires a guide who knows it from the inside. I have lived in the Osaka area for decades, and every private tour of Osaka I lead draws on that deep local knowledge to show you a city that most visitors only scratch the surface of.
From the iconic landmark of Osaka Castle to the electric street life of Dotonbori, from the freshest seafood at Kuromon Market to the hidden izakayas of Shinsekai, Osaka rewards those who go beyond the obvious — and I know exactly where to take you.
Highlights of the Osaka Private Tour
- Osaka Castle — One of Japan’s most famous landmarks, the castle was first built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1583 and played a central role in the unification of Japan. The surrounding park is one of the finest in the country, particularly during cherry blossom season.
- Dotonbori — The heart of Osaka’s food and entertainment culture, where neon signs, street food vendors, and the famous Glico Running Man sign line the canal. Best experienced on foot with a guide who knows what to order and where.
- Kuromon Ichiba Market — Osaka’s “Kitchen,” a covered market stretching 580 meters through the Namba district, packed with fresh seafood, street food, and local produce. The energy here is extraordinary.
- Shinsekai — A retro entertainment district built in the early 20th century and preserved almost unchanged, home to kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers), old-school pachinko parlors, and the Tsutenkaku Tower. Authentically Osakan and unlike anywhere else in Japan.
- Tennoji and Shitenno-ji Temple — Japan’s oldest Buddhist temple, founded in 593 CE by Prince Shotoku. A place of genuine spiritual significance, and far less crowded than comparable sites in Kyoto.
- Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine — One of Japan’s oldest Shinto shrines and the head shrine of the Sumiyoshi style, predating the introduction of Chinese architectural influences. A place of quiet beauty and deep historical significance.
Why Choose a Private Guide for Osaka
Osaka is a city that rewards spontaneity and local knowledge. On an Osaka private tour with me, you move at your own pace, eat what interests you, and go deeper into the neighborhoods and stories that match your curiosity. I know which food stalls are worth the queue, which streets are worth the detour, and which historical sites carry context that transforms a brief stop into a lasting memory.
Osaka serves as an excellent base for day trips throughout the Kansai region — to Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, and beyond. Or spend a full day exploring the city itself. Osaka is also home to some of Japan’s best contemporary architecture, vibrant nightlife, and a comedy and performing arts culture — the manzai tradition — that is deeply embedded in the city’s identity and character. Whether you are visiting for the first time or returning to go deeper, an Osaka private tour with me will show you a side of this city that most visitors never find. Osaka is best understood through its people and its food — and both are best experienced with a guide who lives here. I have spent decades building relationships with local vendors, learning the stories behind the city’s landmarks, and refining the itineraries that consistently produce the most rewarding days for my guests. Every Osaka private tour I lead reflects that accumulated knowledge and genuine enthusiasm for showing visitors the city I know best.
