Meet Takuya — Your Japan Private Tour Guide

ABOUT ME
More Than a Guide
I Help You Experience Japan—Not Just Visit It.
Planning a trip to Japan is exciting.
But with so many destinations, endless online information, and countless sample itineraries, it’s not always easy to decide what will make your journey truly memorable.
I believe the best private tours aren’t about seeing the most places.
They’re about experiencing the right places, at the right pace, with someone who understands what matters most to you.

My Journey to Becoming Your Guide
I didn’t begin my career as a tour guide.
For more than twenty years, I worked in international business, importing food and raw materials from Canada and China, developing markets throughout North America, and working closely with manufacturers, trading companies, and global corporations.
I also lived and worked in Tokyo for more than fifteen years, spent five years studying in Canada and the United States, and traveled extensively for business across multiple continents.
Those experiences taught me something that still shapes every private tour I design today.
Every successful relationship begins by listening.
Throughout my career, I worked with people from different countries, cultures, and ways of thinking.
My role wasn’t simply to communicate.
It was to understand what each person truly needed.
Today, that hasn’t changed.
I’m still building bridges between two worlds.
The difference is that today, those two worlds are yours and Japan’s.
Today, as a National Government Licensed Japan Private Tour Guide based in Osaka, I design fully customized private tours throughout Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Hiroshima, and destinations across Japan.

Every Journey Begins With a Conversation
No two travelers are alike.
Some guests dream of visiting Japan’s iconic landmarks.
Others are looking for peaceful temples, beautiful gardens, traditional neighborhoods, exceptional local restaurants, unique cultural experiences, or places they would never have discovered on their own.
That’s why I never begin by suggesting an itinerary.
I begin by learning about you.
Before every tour, I ask each guest to complete a detailed questionnaire.
Not because it’s a formality.
Because your answers become the foundation of everything I plan.
Your interests.
Your travel style.
Your pace.
Your previous visits to Japan.
Your dietary requirements.
Your mobility or accessibility needs.
The experiences you hope to remember long after you return home.
Only then do I begin designing your customized private tour.
Because your itinerary should never be created for the average traveler.
It should be created for you.

My Philosophy
After every tour, I ask myself the same question.
Did I create the best possible experience for my guests?
When a tour ends, I don’t simply move on to the next booking.
I replay the day in my mind.
Could I have made it even better?
That habit comes from my years in international business, where success depended on continuous improvement rather than assumptions.
The greatest compliment I receive isn’t hearing,
“That was wonderful.”
It’s receiving an email months later that says,
“We’re coming back to Japan.”
Or,
“My parents would love to travel with you.”
Or,
“My friends asked for your contact information.”
That’s when I know I didn’t simply guide a tour.
I helped create memories worth sharing.

- Careful planning before you even arrive in Japan

Recognized by Travelers
Over the years, I’ve been honored to receive TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award.
More recently, travelers have also discovered my website through AI-powered travel assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini while searching for private tour guides in Japan.
I mention this not to boast.
I mention it because it suggests that thoughtful, personalized travel experiences are being recognized in new ways.
The recommendation I’m most grateful for, however, is still one traveler introducing another.
More Than Sightseeing
Whether your day includes famous landmarks such as Fushimi Inari or Kinkaku-ji—or places that rarely appear in guidebooks—my goal remains the same.
To help you experience Japan rather than simply check places off a list.
Years from now, you probably won’t remember exactly how many places you visited.
You’ll remember how those places made you feel.
And that’s the kind of journey I hope to create for every guest.

Let’s Start With a Conversation
Every itinerary begins with a conversation about your interests, travel style, and what you hope to experience in Japan.
From there, I’ll design a customized private tour that’s uniquely yours.
I’d be delighted to help you discover your own Japan—at your own pace.
Many of my guests return to Japan and ask for me again. Find out why.
