Most people visit Japan once. Many of my guests come back — two, three, four times — and each time, I am the first person they contact.

I am not sure there is a single reason for this. What I do is not simply guide people through Japan — I build relationships that continue across multiple visits, and often extend to the families and friends my guests send my way. My guests have put it into words better than I ever could. What follows comes directly from their reviews.

1. I Look After My Guests — Not Just Their Itinerary

From our very first meeting, I want every guest to feel looked after, not managed.

In most cases, I meet my guests at their hotel and see them back safely at the end of the day — though arrangements are always flexible to suit each guest’s preference. When one guest developed a migraine mid-tour, I had medication ready in my pack. When another fell in love with a particular tea, I arrived the next morning with several packages for them to take home. When a group ran short on essentials, I found a nearby drugstore without missing a beat.

“Traveling with him felt less like hiring a guide and more like traveling with a trusted and knowledgeable family member who genuinely cared about our well-being.”
— Marcella P., TripAdvisor (February 2026)

2. I Share What No Guidebook Can Tell You

I do not recite facts. I tell stories — and I choose the details that stay with my guests long after they return home.

I know the precise moment to arrive at each site — before the crowds gather and before the heat sets in. I know the quiet back streets that most visitors never find, and the small details hidden in plain sight that a guidebook would never mention.

“Takuya is a wealth of knowledge of histories and even with some of the smallest details.”
— Catherine L., TripAdvisor (July 2026)

3. I Design Every Tour Around the Individual — Not a Template

No two guests are the same, and I do not treat them as though they were.

I have guided senior citizens and guests using wheelchairs through Kyoto and Nara, carefully designing itineraries so that every member of the group — regardless of mobility — could experience Japan fully and without difficulty. I keep pace with solo travelers who prefer to move fast. I slow down for families with young children. I have found experiences that delighted guests who arrived telling me they didn’t even like sushi. When one guest mentioned she was vegan — not always an easy request in Japan — I planned her entire day around it without a second thought.

“We had a group of 6 with several senior citizens and one in a wheelchair. Definitely not the easiest to maneuver through the busy city of Nara and Kyoto. His knowledge and experience of Japan was evident in developing our itinerary to best suit our needs. He went out of his way to make us feel comfortable.”
— Clayton Y., Honolulu, HI, Yelp (June 2025)

“He effortlessly adjusted plans to accommodate our varied interests and modified the itinerary in response to changing weather.”
— Marcella P., TripAdvisor (February 2026)

“He really takes into account your personal interests when organising a trip and comes up with great ideas himself at the same time.”
— Alain P., TripAdvisor (April 2024)

4. Every Return Visit Opens a Different Japan

When my guests come back, we explore somewhere new together. Japan always has more to offer than any single visit can cover — and many of the places I suggest are destinations my guests would never have thought to look for on their own, or places that are simply more rewarding, more accessible, or more meaningful when experienced with a knowledgeable guide by your side. However, when a returning guest brings companions who are visiting Japan for the first time, we discuss their wishes together. In that case, revisiting a beloved destination may be the right choice for the group.

“We visited Japan on three occasions and every time we hired Takuya and had a wonderful time. We visited beautiful places off the beaten path, away from the very touristic areas.”
— Alain P., TripAdvisor (April 2024)

“Every experience with Takuya is something truly special — whether it’s visiting places of historical or traditional importance, or the amazing establishments to eat and drink. Every experience has been magical and memorable.”
— jawa1967, Gympie, Australia, TripAdvisor (September 2023)

“We get to learn new things, and see different parts of Japan that maybe we wouldn’t have known about.”
— Catherine L., TripAdvisor (July 2026)

5. Trust That Travels Further

Perhaps the clearest measure of trust is not that guests come back themselves — it is that they send the people they love most.

One family’s story began with a single tour. Their youngest daughter — who happened to be vegan — hired me first. She returned home and told her family. Her eldest sister’s family followed. After the pandemic lifted, her second sister’s family made the trip. And most recently, the eldest sister’s son brought his new bride to Japan for their honeymoon — and asked me to guide them.

One introduction. Four separate visits across different years.

Another guest first hired me before the pandemic — and then hired me a second time. When I asked her husband why they had come back, his answer was straightforward: she had felt that I looked after each person in the group with genuine care. That same guest went on to recommend me separately to at least three people in her circle — her niece’s family, a colleague, and her former boss. Her niece then recommended me to her own nephew, who in turn introduced a friend. Her former boss referred me to someone else, who went on to book a tour.

One guest. A chain of introductions that is still continuing.

“Takuya was an excellent tour guide! He was recommended by our aunt and did not disappoint. If we do go back to Japan we would definitely hire Takuya again!!”
— Cheryl W., TripAdvisor (July 2024)

I should add: many of my repeat guests never write a review at all. The trust they place in me shows not in words on a review platform, but in the friends and family members they send my way. One guest told me she recommends me specifically for the Kansai region — she knows this is where my knowledge runs deepest, and she tells people so.

6. Once Is Never Enough

Alain Petit has visited Japan three times, hiring me each time — and has introduced friends to the experience along the way.

Clayton Y. and his group enjoyed their time so much that they wanted to extend the tour by several more days. I was fully booked with other guests. They are already planning to return.

“We will definitely use him when we return to Japan.”
— Clayton Y., Honolulu, HI, Yelp (June 2025)

“Do yourself a favor when visiting Japan and hire Takuya as a personal guide. Do not hesitate to hire him, you will not regret it!”
— Alain P., TripAdvisor (April 2024)

“I’m proud to say that I am the first person whom Takuya has taken on a Japanese tour on three separate occasions. I truly recommend that you use Takuya tour service.”
— jawa1967, Gympie, Australia, TripAdvisor (September 2023)

7. By the End of the Tour, I Hope to Feel Like a Friend

I am a professional guide. But I also genuinely care about the people I spend the day with — and I think my guests feel that.

“He isn’t just a tour guy anymore. It was like reuniting and returning to a friend or a relative in Japan.”
— Catherine L., TripAdvisor (July 2026)

“The first person I’ll contact when I make those plans will be Takuya Yanagisawa.”
— Cynthia P., TripAdvisor (June 2025)
